Ah! The mystery of the building at the corner of Lynch and 11th Streets in St. Louis, Missouri...
Spoiler alert... it is striving to be some kind of a bar.
But there will be cooking and sewing along with the drinking.
Susan and Jeff are the personalities coaxing the building back into service, sorting out how to weave various elements together in a building that has been so many things over the past 150 years.
Ideal Garment, Susan's long love affair with fabric and clothing, is percolating on the second floor.
Fermentation will be the name of the game on the first floor, with a pizza-curious bread oven finding its sea legs in the former kitchen, and Jeff pondering where to put beer taps, and what to pour out of them. Wine will probably be poured out of bottles, but we're open minded.
We'll see how it all ends up.
If you have been curious enough to visit this page, please stop by the building if you see people there, and introduce yourself. We are still months from having a liquor license, but we are free to offer you a drink, and hear your memories of the building, or hopes for its future. It is especially easy to find us on the patio at the end of the day when the weather is nice.
Susan and Jeff have lived in St. Louis since 2009, and in Soulard since maybe 2015. In the late 20th century Susan wrote a book titled "Cooking as Courtship". Read as much of that rambling treatise as you like at: cookingascourtship.blogspot.com
